Grace Grows Garden- Individual Volunteer Shift

Our community food garden, located on the GRACE Marketplace campus, provides a space for individuals to connect with nature, practice self-care, and find relief from the day-to-day stress of homelessness. For individuals who have experienced trauma, spending time in the garden promotes mental and physical health. 

During garden volunteer days, volunteers can work side by side with impacted people, build relationships, and learn about horticulture, agriculture, and food systems work. You don't need previous gardening experience but should come prepared to get your hands in the dirt.

While we love to share our work with new volunteers, we typically are also juggling being able to give our attention to impacted people at the shelter, which requires boundaries on the amount of labor we put into volunteer coordination vs. direct service, especially considering that our leadership are all volunteers too. We understand that sometimes people choose a volunteer opportunity and later decide a different one may suit them better. That's perfectly okay, and we would be happy to connect you with other organizations. However, we hope that our volunteers aim to be engaged for a while rather than a one-time volunteer opportunity. This helps us avoid orienting too many people who cycle in and out rapidly.
